Short Haul Driver

Job Summary

We are looking for a dependable and efficient Short Haul Driver to handle local and nearby freight deliveries with quick turnaround times. This role is perfect for drivers who prefer staying close to home while maintaining steady work and consistent schedules. Short Haul Drivers typically operate within a 150–300 mile radius and complete multiple runs per day. This position combines routine driving with timely delivery and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Transport goods between local terminals, warehouses, and customer sites within a short-range area.
• Complete multiple pickups and drop-offs throughout the day while meeting delivery windows.
• Inspect truck and trailer for safety compliance before and after each shift.
• Communicate with dispatchers regarding route changes, load instructions, or delivery issues.
• Secure cargo according to freight type and ensure minimal damage during transport.
• Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and delivery documentation.
• Follow DOT regulations and company safety standards during every route.

Qualifications and Experience

• Valid CDL and previous experience with short haul, regional, or city driving.
• Strong knowledge of local routes, traffic patterns, and load handling requirements.
• Ability to complete frequent stops, tight maneuvering, and time-sensitive deliveries.
• Excellent communication skills and punctuality are essential.
• Physically fit to assist with loading/unloading when required.
• Familiarity with digital logbooks and basic navigation tools preferred.

Salary

Pay varies based on route type, driver experience, and employment structure (company driver). Drivers can expect competitive per-mile rates, hourly wages, or percentage-based pay. Additional incentives may be offered for safe driving, fuel efficiency, and on-time delivery.
